SWANEPOEL 3rd IN BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL STANDINGS

Date: 16 September 2007.

Gareth Swanepoel of the Molson Kawasaki team has finished 3rd in the final championship standings of the Maxxis British MX 2 series. The South African
who won 4 of the 8 rounds came into the final round at Pontrilas with a 23 point deficit over American Mike Brown. ‘Swanie’s’ title hopes were spoiled after the first moto when he was taken down by 2006 MX2 British champion, Carl Nunn on his way through the pack.

A hard challenge in the second moto would see the MX2 world number 5 fight to finish 3rd to secure 3rd position in the final championship standings.

“It’s been an exciting series with plenty highs and a few lows. I had two rounds that really cost me the championship but all in all I am happy with my speed and having won more rounds than any other rider. The British championship is great to build on for the GP season and I look forward to being back next year.” commented Swanepoel.

Swanepoel now heads to Budds Creek, Maryland to represent South Africa in the 61st edition of the Motocross of Nations. Recently crowned AMA Motocross champion, Grant Langston and Wyatt Avis will complete the 3 man team who will go head to head with the rest of the world for the coveted Chamberlain trophy on the 22-23 September.
