The penultimate round of the FIM MX World championship has seen Gareth Swanepoel miss out on a podium opportunity with a crash in the second moto, spoiling the South African’s points tally at a spectacular Donington Park circuit.

The Molson Kawasaki pilot raced to fourth position in Moto 1 trying his best to close down Frenchman, Jeremy Tarroux in the dieing moments of the 35 minute + 2 lap race. Intent on improving on his first moto finish, Swanepoel didn’t get the best of starts and pushed hard through the pack to make up as many places as possible on the first lap. Moments later Swanepoel went over the handlebars and was stone last as he had to pick himself up and remount his Molson Kawasaki. Swanepoel put his head down and fought back into the points to finish 16th as the checkered flag was waved.

“I just doesn’t seem to be going my way,” commented a disappointed Swanepoel “I felt good all weekend but just couldn’t put it together and threw it away on the table top in the second moto. I have to focus on the last GP in Lierop and set a goal of finishing fifth in the world championship.”

The final round of the 15 rounds series will take place in one week at the infamous sand circuit of Lierop, situated close to Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
