SWANEPOEL LOSES GROUND IN BRITISH CHAMPS
Date: 12 August 2007.
The penultimate round of the Maxxis British Motocross champs
held in Brampton has seen Molson Kawasaki rider Gareth Swanepoel
lose touch in the MX2 points standings.
Swanepoel’s hopes of his first ever British motocross
title were dashed in the first moto when both Tommy Searle
and Swanepoel went down together in the first turn leaving
Mike Brown with a clear track and maximum points to gain
over his younger rivals. The experienced Brown stayed out
of trouble as Swanepoel and Searle had to fight through the
pack on a muddy circuit to stay in championship contention
A better start in the second moto had Swanepoel placed in
the top five as he put his head down to go after Brown who
again was out front. He moved into third behind Searle and
it looked to become a three way battle for the race when
Swanepoel made a mistake and went down. He recovered to fourth
challenging Nunn on the last lap for a podium spot.
“I lost a lot of points today,” commented the
South African. “ With one round to go in the championship
it’s going to be tough but I’ll give it everything
I’ve got.”
The final round of the British championship will be held
on the 15 August in Pontrilas.
