SWANEPOEL SETS SEASON BEST IN UDDEVALLA

Date: 04 July 2010

CAS Honda racer, Gareth Swanepoel, has posted a strong ride at the 10th round of the FIM MX World championship in Uddevalla, Sweden.

Race conditions changed from dry and hot on Saturday during qualifying to a Sunday morning rain which cooled temperatures and made the picturesque circuit rough and slippery.

‘Swanie’ grabbed a good jump as moto 1 got underway but lost his advantage in the first turn. He quickly settled into position and set after team-mate Evgeny Bobryshev. He posted consistent lap times and finished the 35 min + 2 lap race in 7th place for his best moto result to date this season.

Looking to back up his first moto success, Swanepoel tried to get a good start but was boxed in as he entered the first turn. He gained some positions before coming under pressure from Tanel Leok. The Estonian made his pass with Swanepoel trying to latch on to his back wheel. ´Swanie ´ kept banging in consistant lap times and ended the moto in 12th.

“Uddevalla is a special track in the sense that it is very tricky and difficult to put in a perfect lap. I was really pleased with my first race and pace. I set my fastest lap times towards the end of the race and managed to keep an advantage over Strijbos. The second moto was more difficult as I had to come through the pack. I’m really looking forward to Lommel as it is like a home GP to me. I have some really good friends and fans there so it will be great to race in front of them and it will be even better if I can better my result of today.” vowed Swanepoel.
