FOR SWANEPOEL IN LATVIA
Date: 28June 2010
Gareth Swanepoel travelled to Kegums
in Latvia this past weekend for Round 9 of the MX1 World
Championship, where
sunny skies greeted the GP contenders.
Moto one would see a difficult start for ‘Swanie’ as
he emerged 17th at the end of the first lap. Battling to
get in to a fast enough rhythm Swanepoel’s progress
was limited, but in the end he managed to claw his way past
Kevin Strijbos and Sweden’s Tom Soderstrom on his way
to 15th position at the chequered flag.
Moto was a better start for the South African, this time
the number 8 machine was up inside the top 10 and ‘Swanie’ was
looking far more comfortable as he battled it out with Congalves,
Leok and Guarneri. Sat in a solid 10th position with 2 laps
remaining Swanepoel stalled the bike, allowing Guarneri and
Boissiere through. Crossing the line in 12th place put Swanepoel
13th overall for the GP.
Swanepoel gave his comments: “The first moto today
was pretty hard, I was in the middle of the pack and from
there I struggled to move forward. The second race was better,
I felt good on the bike and because I was up with quicker
guys my pace automatically mirrored theirs.”
This week ‘Swanie’ heads to Estonia for a mid-week
international race before then getting over to Sweden for
the 10th round of the MX1 GP next weekend.
