ENJOYS A SOLID GERMAN GP
Date: 21 June2010
Gareth Swanepoel took part in Round
8 of the MX1 World Championship this past weekend, held in
Teutschenthal, Germany. As an ex MX1 German National Champion ‘Swanie’ looked
forward to the event and took encouragement from the thousands
of fans that lined the rough hillside circuit.
Swanepoel rode a comfortable qualification race on Saturday,
taking 10th position, securing a decent gate pick.
In the opening 35minute and 2 lap moto on Sunday ‘Swanie’ launched
his CAS Honda out the gates, and avoiding the first turn
mayhem he powered his number 8 machine around lap 1 in 12th
position. By lap 2 ‘Swanie’ was into 10th position,
but a small mistake on the technical circuit took the South
African down, losing him vital track position. Swanepoel
set charge again, eventually getting himself into 13th position
by the end of the race.
A great start in moto 2 put ‘Swanie’ up in the
leading pack, charging around the circuit in 5th position.
On lap 2 De Dycker set him up for a pass, which in turn gave
enough room for Bobryshev and Philippaerts to slip through
at the same time, leaving ‘Swanie’ having to
set chase on them. For the remainder of the long moto Swanepoel
rode a consistent and fast pace, crossing the finish line
in 10th spot, and taking 11th overall for the day.
“I enjoyed the racing this weekend. The track was
so rough from all the classes that they ran, but I felt strong
and the bike was very good. This has not been one of my favorite
circuits in the past, but this weekend I settled into it
and really enjoyed racing on it. This week I am just going
to spend some time practicing at home in Belgium before flying
out to Latvia at the end of the week for the next GP.” Commented
Swanepoel.
