SWANEPOEL STRONG IN LYNG, BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Date: 14 June2010

CAS Honda Racer, Gareth Swanepoel has posted a strong performance at round 4 of the British Motocross champs held in Lyng over the weekend to gain another podium in the MX1 title hunt. The South African, had to deal with a sprained ankle which he aggravated in morning qualifying, however ‘Swanie’ put the pain and aside and brought home a 3-2-2 score for second overall.

As the racing got underway with Moto 1, Swanepoel had a mediocre start and had to work his way through the pack while championship contenders, Evgeny Bobryshev and Brad Anderson were out front. By the time Swanepoel moved into 3rd he had lost touch with the leaders and had to settle in the podium position to the flag.

A much better jump in Moto 2 saw a CAS 1-2 as Bobryshev and Swanepoel left the pack in their dust. Matching each other in speed the CAS duo raced an intense race with neither rider giving in nor making a crucial mistake. Swanepoel followed his Russian team-mate home to claim 2nd.

The final and deciding Moto saw Stephen Sword sandwiched between fast starter Bobryshev and Swanepoel. With ‘Boby’ setting the pace, Swanepoel took some time to get past the Scott and then had Anderson to deal with behind him but he quickly put in some fast laps, dropping Anderson and Sword as he went after Bobryshev. As the clock ran out Swanepoel crossed the line in 2nd for 3 consistent results over the day.

“My day did not start off well when my foot came of the peg and I bashed it pretty hard. It swelled up immediately but I managed to put the pain aside and let the adrenalin take over. ‘ Boby’ was on the gas today and got 3 good starts. I was happy to run the pace with him and keep him honest though. I closed in on Brad in the championship and we are half way through the series so a lot can still happen. I am looking forward to the German GP this coming weekend as I have a lot of supporters over there” explained a content Swanepoel.
