Hi everyone,
I am back home in South Africa spending some time with my family and catching up with some friends. I have been home for 2 weeks now and it’s been great. I have started to up my training program and I spend a lot of time on the spinning bike and stepper machine, as well as some power training in the gym. I have been training 6 days a week so that keeps me quite busy.
It is now 9 weeks since my operation and I will have a scan here next week at the 10 week mark after which the cast will hopefully come off.
My doctor here will then send all the scans and x rays to Dr Claes, my specialist in Belgium and If everything goes according to plan I will then have a small operation to take the remaining pins out and then start doing some physio. I just can’t wait to have the cast off and start working on my come back. I have been following all the races closely and it keeps me really motivated.
My brother in law got a trick remote control car for Christmas and he convinced me to get one last week so we can race each other. It seemed like a really great idea until I got it and found out you have to build the whole thing piece by piece, which is a problem for me under normal circumstances, never mind now with my right hand and thumb in a cast.
After 2 long days and getting anybody I could to help me put it together I got it going and have been having great fun. We have a track down the road from our house and we go practice there but it seems so hard to not take all the other cars out. Now my brother in law who seems to have a bit of an edge over me (not for long) has entered us into a race on Sunday. I have no idea how it all works but when in doubt hold it flat out…. We will see what happens…should be fun
In between my training and remote control car bashing I have also been training some kids out at the local MX track which has also been good fun. It keeps me involved and also extremely busy.
