Back in SA
Hi everyone,

Sorry for taking such a long time to update my diary. So much has happened the last few months. I am sure you guys know I had a pretty major shoulder operation after dislocating my left shoulder in a start crash at the last round of the British championship. I managed to tear my capsule and my rotator cuff to pieces. The op went well but I will be out for 4 months, which puts me back on the bike around the beginning of January. I am confident that I will have enough time to prepare for the 2007 season.

I managed to get over to England and catch the Des Nations which was by far the biggest race I have ever seen. It was amazing. I wish I could of ridden but our boys did pretty well without me anyway so it was different to experience the race from the other side of the fence. I enjoyed it and I was so happy Everts and Cairoli proved that the speed in Europe is high….

I flew back home 3 days later and it was so nice to be home and spend some time with my family. The only good thing about being injured is you have time to do other things and see everyone. Taking time off also makes you hungry to train again. So after being home for a week I started physio 3 times a week and I was lucky enough to be given a Schwinn spinning bicycle from ‘Fitness World’ to use to get me back in shape. So now my days have got a bit busier - I spin every day and spend up to 4 hours at physio each time so I am starting to get better and better. Oh and I have even started working in the garden believe or not!

I managed to go watch the last round of the south African national championship and it was good fun and nice to see all the guys I grew up with and all the young riders that are coming through and I managed to catch up with some of my South African sponsors. So it was a good day and the racing was pretty good. I even managed to join everyone for the end of year party that the guys organized and had an awesome time!

Its my sisters birthday this Friday so I am going shopping for presents today with my mom(lucky me) It should be quick and pain free I hope. Then it’s back onto my spinning bicycle and then off to gym. I am now 7 weeks post op so I am hoping to start cycling on a road bicycle soon. I have entered the 94.7 cycling race which is in 3 weeks. I am a bit optimistic but hoping I will be given the go ahead to race. It’s going to be really tough considering I have not been on a bicycle for a while but it will be good training.. I will let you know how it goes.

Till then give it horns!
