Hi everyone
As I write this I am in England at my team manager’s house watching Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. We have been out riding today in Wales, which is about 270km from where we are staying. It was snowing here when we got up this morning so it was the only dry place and it is right out by the sea. It was extremely rough and a very short 45-second lap time so it was a tough day at the office really.
I actually arrived back in Europe 2 weeks ago and spent the 1st week at home in Belgium just hitting the gym and mountain biking. Only thing was it was snowing and –3 degrees. Talk about a shock to the system coming from the middle of a south African summer but I was happy to be back and getting into it. I then stayed in Belgium and had a couple more slippery mountain bike rides until I had my pre- season fitness test, which went well. It was still below 0 and all the tracks were frozen so I headed off in the camper to my team in England because they had assured me the weather was far better there.
Well as I got here it was snowing even worse then in Belgium but we still loaded up and shot off to the track where the snowflakes were huge but somehow the track was quite good. I managed to ride even though I could not feel my hands and the snow had frozen on top of my helmet and all on my goggles. It was a tough 1st day but I suppose it’s just something that has to be done. Since then we have been doing a lot of riding but all in deep mud, which is good practice for me really. The forecast does not look good for the 1st round of the British this coming weekend so all my mud riding should help.
After that we have an International race at Hawkstone Park and I am looking forward to that because I won the British championship race there last year.
