Flying helicopters and driving 40 ton trucks!
Hi everyone

Well a lot has happened in the last few weeks ...the strength test on my shoulder went really well so I was cleared to ride. I managed to have a fitness test the day after and that went well too. So I was excited to get back on the bike full time knowing my shoulder is strong and my fitness is good. I rode a couple of times before we drove down to Richards bay for a riding school.

It was good fun down there, but really hot. I spent the whole day Saturday with the guys working on technique and helping them go faster. I was pleasantly surprised at how motivated they all were and how keen they were to learn. I then got some hard laps in before we went back to where we were staying to have a swim and cool down.

We got up bright and early Sunday morning and Mike Dutton from Bell who we were staying with, took us for a helicopter ride. It was amazing! We flew out to the track and then along a river all the way to the sea. We saw a huge crocodile in the river and then we got to see some dolphins as we flew over the sea. It was amazing and really made my weekend.
We then went back to the track and I helped the younger 50cc and 65cc riders which was great fun.

Mike then took us for a small tour of Bell Trucks on Monday and it was also amazing. It’s huge and we got to drive a 40 ton truck on the test track( Mike actually trusted us enough). So after a helicopter ride, getting to drive a 40 ton truck and being very well looked after by Mike and his wife Mandy, we left back to Durban and stayed at my good friend Adam to do some more riding. I really enjoy it there because Adam and his crew are what I now call my official fan club. They are all a bunch of nice guys and all came out to watch me lay down some laps. The atmosphere with them all just makes it fun and reminds me of when I was young racing in SA.

We stayed and rode a couple of days and found some really good tracks which are very similar to the European tracks before leaving back home so I could carry on with physio.

I have been spending a lot of time back on the bike and still doing a lot of cycling and running. I am actually going to cycle the Hyper to Hyper cycling race on Sunday . It’s a 100km event so it should be good training…I fly back to Europe next Friday and I am very excited. I feel I am ready and as strong and as fast as I have ever been even after my shoulder injury.

I will keep you updated

Till then give it horns

Swanie.
